Wolfgang Hammersmith on Music
My Early Music Experience
I have a strong classical music background thanks to my mother’s influence at a young age. At the age of six I began private violin lessons with Elizabeth Mills. By the age of twelve I began private studies with the internationally renowned violinist Alice Schoenfeld. I was performing solo, quartet and orchestral pieces.
I was a soloist with the Junior and Senior San Gabriel Valley Orchestras. I played Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, Brahms Violin Concerto, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn, Tzigane, Bach’s Chaconne and works by Mozart, and numerous others.
Additionally, I played first or second violin in various Coleman Quartet Competitions.
At the age of sixteen I injured my wrist, ending my time for playing the violin.
As time reveals, this was a blessing in disguise.
For this inspired me to study the electric bass.
